Our commitment

Community Hub is used by people of all ages and abilities, including many older-adult and community groups (Active Retirement associations, Men's Sheds, and others) whose members may not be confident computer users. We want everyone to be able to find groups, events and notices, regardless of how they browse the web.

What we've done

The site is built to work with minimal reliance on JavaScript — nearly every page works with scripting turned off, since content is rendered on the server rather than assembled in the browser. Pages use plain, semantic HTML (proper headings, labelled form fields, and native elements like collapsible details/summary for FAQs) rather than custom widgets that often trip up screen readers. Images have descriptive alt text, the site is fully usable on a phone or tablet, and there's now a "Skip to main content" link for keyboard users to jump past the navigation on every page.

Known limitations

This site has not been through a formal WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) audit, so we can't claim a specific compliance level. Colour contrast, focus indicators, and screen reader behaviour on more complex pages (like the meeting-time and event forms) haven't been independently tested. If something is hard to use, we want to know — see below.
